Woody Kloesel
Woody Kloesel, P.E.
President

Woody Kloesel, a Texas native, received a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas – El Paso in 1979, and a Masters degree in Structural Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1981. After graduation, he worked in Houston for 6 years as a design engineer and assistant project manager for structural engineering consultants Haynes-Whaley Associates. The primary emphasis was low-rise and mid-rise commercial office buildings. In 1987, he re-located to Asheville and worked for 8 years as a design engineer and project manager for structural engineering consultants Sutton-Kennerly & Associates. He established KLOESEL Engineering, P.A. in 1995.

Todd Sessions
Todd Sessions, P.E.
Senior Project Engineer

After the first 10+ years of his career, Todd relocated his family from Atlanta, GA to Asheville. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida in 1995 and liked it so much he stayed another 2 years for a Master’s Degree in Structures. While in Atlanta he worked for a consulting firm designing medium sized industrial facilities and also worked at one of the largest Structural only firms in Atlanta where he designed hospitals, schools, restaurants, retail centers, banks and distribution centers. Todd joined Kloesel Engineering in July 2008 and is currently registered in Georgia and North Carolina.

Chris Otahal
Chris Otahal, P.E.
Project Engineer

Chris received Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees in Civil Engineering with a specialization in structures from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After working in suburban Chicago for three and one half years, Chris relocated to Asheville, NC in 2005. He has experience designing wood, steel, concrete, masonry, and aluminum structures. Chris is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of North Carolina.

David Szymanski
David Szymanski
Senior Project Designer

With over 30 years of experience in construction and design, David comes from a diverse background in structural design. He was born and raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and is a third generation furniture maker. David has worked as a carpenter/cabinet maker, construction inspector and welder. Throughout his career, David has worked on a variety of projects ranging from roads, bridges, waste water treatment plants, port cranes, coffer dams, space shuttle work, and chemical plants. David took time away from structural and civil projects to work in an architectural firm for 5 years where he worked on schools, coliseums and hospitals including surgical suites and birthing centers. He returned to structural work to be the lead designer on an aircraft assembly plant for a private military contractor. David relocated to Asheville in 2006.

Greg Angel
Greg K. Angel
Project Designer

Greg is a native to the Asheville area. He grew up in West Asheville and has worked here all of his life. He began his career in the construction industry back in the mid-eighties. Greg has worked on many large residential projects in the Biltmore Forest district of South Asheville, and other locations throughout the area as well. He received his Associates in Applied Science degree in Civil Engineering Technology at A-B Tech and began a career in the engineering industry in 2003. He later became a Project Designer at Kloesel Engineering, P.A. in January 2008. Greg’s vision is to see Kloesel Engineering at the top of the Structural Engineering Industry in the Asheville and surrounding areas.

Paula Lindsay
Paula Lindsay
Administrative Assistant

Paula has been at the firm since July 2008 as a part-time administrative assistant. Before that she was the office manager for her husband’s engineering consulting business. She has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and worked for GE Aircraft Engines before quitting to raise a family.
